Established in 1965, the garden surrounds a Cotswold watermill with stream and millpond. It is a garden of many rooms - a cricket lawn, innovative fruit garden, rose walk, and herb potager with the village church as a back drop. Alkaline/neutral clay and Cotswold brash soil - steeply sided valley running East-West, a frost pocket at the bottom by the water, sunlit hills at the top three weeks ahead of the rest of the garden.
Bourton House Garden features luxuriant terraces and wide herbaceous borders with stunning plant, texture and colour combinations. Features include a topiary walk, a White Garden and several spring-fed water features including a raised basket pond from the Great Exhibition of 1851.
Welcome to The Model Village. We are the only Model Village in the UK that represents it's own home in 1/9th scale, and recognised in 2013 by English Heritage as qualifying for Grade II Listed status - giving the attraction protection from any changes as the village accurately reflects life as it was in the 1930's when it was first built.
It seems a long time ago planting those first few plants on hands and knees in the first field. At the time we didn't know if lavender would suit the soil type or survive the harsh winters up here. But survive it did, although we did have a few sleepless nights in the early days. It is now difficult to remember a time before lavender was central to our farm. Almost everything we now do revolves around lavender - growing, harvesting, making new products and of course using it ourselves every day
